ID RequirementsGovernment-issued photo ID required. Student pilot certificate or instructor endorsement required for some tests. Name on ID must match registration exactly.
RenewalRequired -- FAA Airman certificates do not expire, but proficiency requirements apply. Airman Knowledge Test result valid for 24 months for scheduling the practical test (checkride). Pilots must complete a Biennial Flight Review (BFR) every 24 months to act as PIC. Currency requirements (landings, instrument approaches) are separate from certificate renewal.
