FormatComputer-based (tablet interface); at home via ProctorU or at Prometric test centers. 3 scored sections of approximately 23-27 questions each (~35 min per section) plus one unscored variable section and an unscored Writing sample (taken separately). Note: As of August 2024, the Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games) section has been replaced by a second Reading Comprehension section per updated LSAC test design.

ID RequirementsGovernment-issued photo ID required. The name on the ID must exactly match the name on the LSAC account. For at-home testing: ID must be held up to the webcam for visual verification.

RenewalNot required -- LSAT scores are not certifications requiring renewal. Scores are valid for 5 years from the test date for most ABA-accredited law schools. Some schools may accept scores older than 5 years at their discretion. Candidates may retake the LSAT within lifetime attempt limits.

Retake PolicyCandidates may take the LSAT up to 3 times in a single testing year (June 1–May 31), up to 5 times in 5 years, and up to 7 times total over a lifetime. LSAC reports all scores from the last 5 years to law schools. No mandatory waiting period between attempts; candidates may register for the next available administration after receiving scores.
